Samuel y Carla en Élite

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

This is a quick write-up on my emotional connection with Élite, the Spanish teen drama.

The Series “Élite” in Spanish that is broadcast on Netflix is one which I started viewing just to watch something in Spanish after the four seasons of “La Casa de Papel”. I was not that excited to go on watching it after one or two episodes. But later someday during an emotional downtime, I started watching it anew. Soon it turned out to be a show that I could not stop watching until all the episodes and seasons were over. It was so addictive to watch a few teenagers live their life in a reputable educational institution in Madrid.

Nadia, Guzmán, Samuel, Carla, Cayetana, Rebeca, Polo, Ander, Omar, Christian, Patrick, Ariadna – the list goes on and on. They were such an incredible group of characters that it became a joy to watch them connect, fight, bicker and get intimate.

For the entire world, I understand reading reviews that Nadia and Guzmán are the stars – but for me, the characters I loved the most are Samuel and his love for Carla, the marchioness. Carla, originally portrayed as a woman who gets her stuff done by anyone, with her sensuality, getting into multiple relationships at the same time, finally settles down for the poor Samuel and that is a joy to watch on screen. The 21-year-old Ester Expósito has played Carla to perfection.

I watched the fourth and the latest season, in one sweep from 8.20 pm to 2.20 am on Friday last week – I just could not stop it at any point until Netflix told me – “now get up and go to bedit’s over”.

The connecting short narratives on what happened to each of those central characters after the Polo murder mystery is dealt with and before the incidents in season four starts to unfold are also impeccably made.

Out of the four stories which are 10 minutes x 3 videos each, I like the Carla – Samuel episode, the best. The way Samuel and Carla love each other, the way he pulls her back from the airport, and later Carla taking a mature decision to give up the show realizing its no-future-prospect are all made so brilliantly that I am sure there would be so many people all around the globe who could have related to those scenes.

The final voice message that Carla sent to Samuel before walking away from his hall would leave our hearts heavy.

She said: -

Te estabas despidiendo y no sabías cómo. Pero me alegro de que nos hayamos dado este final. No me arrepiento de haber perdido siete aviones. No me arrepiento de nada. Gracias Samuel. Por se tú incluso a tu pesar. Gracias por querer a esta marquesa caprichosa….y por derretir su coraza de hielo. Aunque lo nuestro no pueda ser, yo te voy a querer siempre.

So touching, emotional, and affectionate.

I think I might have watched this portion at least ten times or more.

Long live Carla and Samuel…......

Hasta Pronto Carla..….!!!
